Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate understood impacts of tourism by the host community and to survey Tourism Carrying Capacity in Samen zone, Mashhad.
Method: The research method is descriptive-analytical. Library resources have been used to theoretical issues and select the indicators related to research aim, and field studies have been done by interview and questionnaire. The statistical community include residents, officials of hotels and travel agencies and government officials that was chosen the sample size of 374 people among them. Non-parametric tests, including Chi-Square, Friedman and Kruskel-Wallis have been used to analyze data.
Findings / Results: The results indicate that in Samen zone, tourism has left positive and negative impacts from economic and socio-cultural aspects and due to some undesirable impacts in some aspects, carrying capacity in those aspects has closed to its threshold, and it has had just negative and undesirable impacts in environmental aspect and in all indictors, carrying capacity has closed to its threshold. Also, there is significant relationship between tourism and economic, socio-cultural and environmental indicators with confidence level of 95% and significant of 0.000 that is less than 0.05 and tourism has been affected on any of the indicators. There isn’t significant difference about the economic, social-cultural and environmental impacts of tourism understood by host community, among the three groups. Finally, tourism has more impact on some aspects of economic, social-cultural and environmental components than other aspects.
Conclusion: According to the results and the growing number of pilgrims in Mashhad, particularly in Samen zone, efficient planning and management in order to sustainable development and to strengthen the positive impacts and to reduce the negative impacts of tourism in economic, social-cultural and environmental aspects to create a positive attitude in the host community and their support of these activities are necessary.
