Abstract

Tourism development is recognized as a key driver of economic growth in urban and regional areas, playing a significant role in socio‑economic transformation. Tourism attractions have turned contemporary cities into major destinations for vast numbers of visitors, and competition among these cities to attract tourists is steadily on the rise. The present study aims to identify the factors influencing tourism development in Neyshabur County. In this applied research, a descriptive–analytical methodology has been adopted. Data were collected quantitatively through a structured questionnaire administered in 2025. The statistical population consisted of tourists visiting Neyshabur, and convenience sampling was employed to select 159 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS, along with structural equation modeling in SmartPLS 4. The results indicate that the “destination image” index, with a mean score of 3.45, ranked highest among the evaluated indicators, while “tourism destination attractiveness” and “destination attraction” ranked next with mean scores of 3.38 and 3.27, respectively. Findings from structural equation modeling further suggested that destination image wielded the greatest effect on destination attractiveness, with a path coefficient of 0.430. Accordingly, destination image is identified as the most influential factor in enhancing the tourism attractiveness of Neyshabur, highlighting the critical role of tourists’ perceptions and positive mental imagery in their destination choice and satisfaction. Therefore, tourism development planning should prioritize the improvement and effective management of this mental image.
