Abstract

Historical textures reinterpret the identity and history of the city. The presence of historical texture has become an indicator of competitiveness between cities. Despite this, the high added value in the city center and the lack of attention to improvement, revitalization, and authenticity programs have created a combination of livability indicators in this sensitive area of the city. In the present study, which aims to explain livability in the historical texture of the Tabriz metropolis, we try to present a comprehensive picture of the challenges, capacities, and paths to improving the quality of life in this area with urban value by utilizing a combination and multi-level approach. The research method is descriptive-analytical and its environment is qualitative-quantitative. The statistical population of the study is the residents of the old texture of Tabriz and experts in this field. The results of the one-way variance test show that there are statistically significant differences between the studied groups in several key indicators. In terms of satisfaction with urban services and the physical index, the satisfaction of residents is lower. In terms of urban management performance, the experts' evaluation was significantly lower than that of tourists and businesses. The results of field studies show that green and recreational spaces, deterioration of buildings and roads, and dissatisfaction with urban management are among the factors of destruction in the historical fabric of Tabriz. Qualitative findings showed that active participation of residents in urban decision-making, including the management of public spaces and planning of improvement projects, has a significant impact on increasing satisfaction and quality of life.
