Abstract
In recent decades, urban experts have come to believe that in addition to the impact of economic and physical sectors on the improvement of the condition of marginal and poor neighborhoods, the social potentials of these neighborhoods can have a significant impact on their development and improvement. With this description, the current study aims to compare the social development indicators of Behesht neighborhood (non-marginal neighborhood) and Torogh neighborhood (marginalized neighborhood) in Mashhad metropolis. Therefore, the status of social development indicators in each neighborhood was investigated by using the average of the residential questionnaire and objective findings (field observations, interviews, and census documents) And then by surveying the experts and using Merik's analytical method to evaluate the indicators and finally with the help of Mabac's analytical method to rank two neighborhoods in terms of the level of social development and determine the status of the neighborhoods. The results of the ranking of the neighborhoods show a higher rank of Torogh neighborhood than Behesht neighborhood in social development. In Torogh neighborhood, indicators of the sense of responsibility, gender and ethnic equality, desire to progress, identity, social cohesion, and social participation are in a better condition while in Behesht neighborhood, indicators of ethnic gender equality, scientific culture, the sense of responsibility, desire to progress, identity, housing, job satisfaction and Income and access to services are better. The weakest indicators in Torogh neighborhood are indicators of access to services, vitality, safety and security, housing, trust, and satisfaction with job and income, and in Behesht neighborhood, indicators of trust, participation, social cohesion, vitality, safety, and security. The average comparison of the three components shows the better condition of the social capital component in Torogh neighborhood and the quality of life component in Behesht neighborhood.
