Abstract

Satisfaction with the residential environment reflects how people evaluate their surroundings. The feeling of satisfaction with one's living environment is influenced by various factors that can enhance social tranquility within the community. Therefore, it can be inferred that when individuals have a positive outlook on their lives and futures across various dimensions—personal, social, spiritual, and economic—they will experience a greater sense of security concerning their social environment. Security is one of the most fundamental human needs. Researchers believe that the provision and perception of security are closely linked to the physical characteristics of the environment and the level of satisfaction derived from it. Thus, the aim of this research is to sociologically study the relationship between the feeling of social security and satisfaction with urban residential areas (a field study in Sari County) in 2024. This study is applied in its purpose and employs a survey method. The statistical population includes residents over 18 years old in the central area of Sari, which is considered an old fabric according to Sari Municipality's Region 4, with a population of approximately 67,500. The sample size was determined to be 384 individuals using the Krejcie and Morgan table, but to increase reliability, 570 individuals were selected. Due to high respondent dispersion, cluster sampling was used. Data for this research were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS software. The theoretical framework of the research was based on the theories of Barry Buzan, Weaver, Parsons, and Inglehart. The results indicate that all six components of the feeling of social security have a direct and significant relationship with satisfaction from urban residential areas. Ultimately, four components—perceived personal security, financial security, perceived urban-social physical security, and moral security—explained 62% of the variance in the dependent variable of the study.
