Abstract

The current cities of the world face greater challenges in achieving security due to population growth and increasing complexity. Various factors contribute to the creation of a safe city. The smart city, built on the foundation of information and communication technology, aims to address problems, particularly in establishing security in cities, through intelligent methods. Urban management considers the realization of smart solutions as a way to manage increasing pressures. The objective of this research is to elucidate the urban security landscape using the indicators of a smart city in Semnan. In this study, the necessary information was gathered through library and documentary methods as well as field research and direct observation. The statistical population consists of the residents of Semnan city, with a sample size estimated at 384 individuals based on Morgan's sampling table. According to the results of the analyses, the regression correlation coefficient from the simultaneous relationship between the dimensions of the smart city and urban security in Semnan indicates a strong relationship between these dimensions. The coefficient of determination shows that 58% of the variance in urban security in Semnan is explained by the dimensions of the smart city. Therefore, it can be said that the dimensions of the smart city theory have an impact on the development of urban security in Semnan. Additionally, the t-value obtained from SPSS software was negative, indicating that the average level of urban security is low, and from the perspective of respondents and citizens, Semnan is perceived as unfavorable in this regard.
