Abstract

Today, development projects are being carried out in rural areas with the aim of organizing and improving their physical structure. In this regard, the success rate of these development projects and the satisfaction of local people are among major subjects studied in geography. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the factors and driving forces behind implementing rural road networks in these development projects in the research area. In this study, an attempt has been made to explore the status of road network implementation indices in development projects undertaken in rural areas of Shahrekord County. The research is explanatory-causal and field survey, questionnaires and field observations have been employed in 10 target villages where road networks in development projects have come under spotlight. The study population includes local authorities and residents of the target villages. Based on the number of households (n=6,693) in the studied villages, a sample size of 220 people was calculated. The pattern index of road network construction (0.485) is weakly correlated with the implementation of rural road networks in development projects. Furthermore, the results of spatial analysis of road networks in development projects suggest that he villages of Vanan, Shamsabad, Khoy, Surak, Herchegan have the highest rank of road networks in development projects, while the villages of Imamzadeh, Morghamalak, and Pir Balut have the lowest rank. The results of path coefficient indicate that among the four dimensions investigated for development projects, the network construction with a path coefficient of 0.245, and slope with a path coefficient of 0.230 have the highest impact, respectively, followed by architectural and landscape with a coefficient of 0.237. Finally, the coverage and surface dimension have the lowest impact with a coefficient of 0.158.
