Abstract
The urban sprawl and the resulting problems have caused various approaches to be proposed for the inner-city development.One of these approaches is the urban infill development. According to their nature, urban deteriorated fabrics can be a appropriate places for this type of development, so that along with reducing problematic urban spaces, excessive urban sprawl can be prevented and inner-city development can be achieved.But before taking any action, the capacity of these fabrics for this kind of development must be assessed. Accordingly, the aim of this paper was to study the capacity of Some’e Bijār as a neighborhood located in urban deteriorated fabrics of Rasht city in north of Iran in line with its urban infill development.It was a descriptive-analytical study.The data were analyzed using the inferential statistics including nonparametric sign test, AHP model and the gray analysis.The results showed that the study area including the social, environmental and physical dimensions, except the economic dimension is ready for the implementation of the inner-city development with the infill development approach.However, this was not the same for the all blocks of the neighborhood and there were some differences between them.Results show that study area except for the economic dimension, in other dimensions i.e. social, environmental and physical, is ready for the implementation of the inner-city development with the infill development approach. It should be noted that this preparation is not the same in all the blocks of the studied neighborhood and there are some differences among them. Also unlike what was expected, Some’e Bijār neighborhood is relatively well prepared for the infill development. Although, it seems that one of the most important issues, which requires serious attention, is developing the trust among the residents of Some’e Bijār neighborhood on the optimal implementation of projects such as the urban development plans by the authorities
