Abstract

Citizenship rights in recent years has become one of the most complicated socio-political issues, attracting the attention of many thinkers and politicians. Several studies have been conducted in Iran on in this regard. Meta-analysis aimed to identify points of differences and similarities of research in this field and identify the most important factors influencing the awareness of citizenship rights in Iran. Population of the study consisted the scientific papers on awareness of citizenship rights published between 2001 and 2021. Twenty-two papers were selected and analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software. The results showed that awareness of citizenship rights in Iran is average. Moreover, of numerous factors, such factors as social participation, socio-economic status, and media consumption have had greater impact on awareness of citizenship rights in Iran. Finally, the effect size analysis showed that significant impact of social participation, socio-economic status and media consumption on awareness of citizenship rights were 0.32, 0.27, and 0.26 respectively. Considering the impact of these variables on the awareness of citizenship rights, the following suggestions can be offered: introducing organizations, associations, and non-governmental organizations in different fields to citizens, and explaining their various activities for increasing people’s participation; using the capabilities of IRIB to make programs on the subject matter of citizenship; and providing a suitable ground for demanding citizenship rights through television programs, text messages, and the Internet.
