Abstract

Political participation refers to voluntary activities undertaken by the mass public to influence public policy, either directly or by affecting the selection of individuals who make policies and factors, and this important interest is done with the help of women's empowerment. The empowerment of women is not a new phenomenon; it has been mentioned in all countries of the world for various reasons. What distinguishes the current approach of women's empowerment from the traditional one is the shift from a focus on developing and promoting women's social welfare to a focus on empowering them to improve political participation from a political, economic, social and cultural perspective in the present age. The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of social empowerment on political participation of rural women in Tabriz County. The research method was a descriptive/correlational design of survey type. The statistical population in the study includes all rural women over 15 years of age in rural region of Tabriz County )N=31204). Then, 380 people using the Cochran's formula and simple random sampling method as the statistical samples were selected. The content and face validity of the instrument was specified after several reviews and correction by the faculty members at university and also several experts at administrative offices. The reliability analysis was conducted and Cronbach's alpha values for the various sections of the instrument were estimated to be between 0.79 and 0.89. The results of this study showed that except for two variables of social cooperation and social interaction, there is a significant relationship between the improvement of rural women’s political participation and all variables of social empowerment (social participation, social trust, social cohesion, social satisfaction, social responsibility, and social value). Rural women’s political participation can be enhanced by applying the results of the study and improving different elements of social trust, social participation, social cohesion, satisfaction, and responsibility. Through this, they can recognize their own agency and individual authority in deciding their own social destiny and try to keep it.
