Locating urban green space using GIS Model (Case study: Khorram Aabaad)

Abstract
The distribution and dispersion of urban green spaces are of great importance. Khorram Aabaad is a city which lacks an appropriate distribution of green spaces and this is far from the standards of UNEP which is 20-25 m2 of green space per capita. The green space in this city is 11.3 m2. Some regions in this city are without any kind of green spaces but some other regions have more green spaces. To compensate this bioenvironmental and recreational loss, an evaluation of the regional lands is needed. The following criteria are used for the evaluation of the lands: being located in barren fields, proximity to educational, cultural and population centers, proximity to urban establishments, access to communication network and the distance from parks and green spaces. To locate the appropriate places for parks and green spaces, GIS Model is used. The results show that the best quality lands were located near river sides, in empty regions inside the city, lands owned by the government or where there is no concentration of buildings.
