Abstract
This paper presents a mathematical model of a Ajichai catchment in the northwest of Iran which is located to the east of Lake Urmia at 47 52’ E to 45 32’ E longitude and 37 26’ N to 38 30’ N latitude. For this purpose, we used data from Tabriz Upper Air station, which is the only station in the area (northwestern Iran). The research data comprised seven instability indicators including SI, K, V.T, C.T, T.T, SW and LI derived from the said station as well as 71 floods reported from 1966 to 2004 in the Ajichai catchment area. The comparison of above indicators with the standards of atmospheric instability suggest contradiction between the observed and predicted values. Finally, the instability indicators of the Ajichai basin area were determined as follows:
T.T > = 41.8
V.T > = 24.7
SI = < 7.12
SW > = 11.65
C.T > = 11.5
K > = 14.3
LI = < 6.79
